Altered Book Art is a journal project that I introduced to the students for our regular Friday journal writing assignment. We took discarded hard cover books and turned them into works of art and writing of their own by altering the pages within. Poetry and short stories emerged. Mathematical manipulation created pockets, 3-dimensional pop outs and sculptural additions to the book. Watercolor paints, crayon and colored pencil adorned the pages to add visual interest that related to the words they pulled out of the text and to block the words they did not want used. This was a very creative way of using both the right and left side of their brain as they became authors and illustrators. Take a look at a few samples of their work.........
